Sew this: Four Quarters Fabric Bowl – Free Pattern

Here is a fun pattern to keep handy for creating storage bins or fabric baskets for gifts.  This fabric bowl was created by the very talented Angie at the Beaverton store. The bowl size finishes at about 7″ in diameter.

This is a good project for a skilled beginner

Pro Tip:

This basket can easily be sized up or down with smaller or larger rectangles.  If you make your rectangle shorter, you will get a shallow basket or tray.  If you make your rectangle taller, your basket will be deeper.

Supplies:

• 1/4 yard repeat stripe for the outer fabric
• 1/4 yard lining fabric
• 1/4 yard Decor Bond
• 1/4 yard Fusible Fleece
• 2” x  30” strip for binding
• 60° Fabric Ruler

Directions:

1. Iron Decor Bond onto the back of the outer fabric, and fusible fleece onto the back of the lining fabric.
2. Unfold the repeat stripe and cut six 8½ x 4¼” rectangles, with one 4¼” edge lined up with the top of your stripe. Cut six 8½ x 4¼” rectangles from the lining.
3. Lay your 60-degree ruler, centered, onto each rectangle with the point lined up at the center of the bottom 4¼” edge. Trim the bottom corners off of each piece to create a 60-degree point at the bottom edge.
4. Stitch two lining pieces together along the 60-degree edge, stopping at the corner and press the seam open. Stitch a third lining piece onto this unit along the 60-degree edge, stopping at the corner, and press the seam open.   Set aside.
   Repeat with remaining lining pieces to make two halves.
5. With right sides together, stitch the two lining halves together along the 60-degree edges, from corner to corner and press the seam open.
6. Complete each side seam around the basket, pressing the seams open as you go.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 with your outer fabric.
8. Slide the lining into the outer basket, wrong sides together. Line up the side seams all the way around and pin in place.
9. Using your favorite binding method to finish the top edge.
