Vancouver Row by Row Experience – Home Sweet Home
Where is Vancouver?
Vancouver, Washington sits on the north bank of the Columbia River directly across from Portland, Oregon. The Pacific Coast is less than 90 miles to the west. The Cascade Mountain Range rises on the east. Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and Mt. Hood are less than two hours away. The spectacular Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area lies 30 minutes to the east. Vancouver combines the excitement of a major metropolitan area with small-town charm and abundant recreational opportunities.
The Row by Row Experience theme for 2016 is “Home Sweet Home”, but to tie all the Craft Warehouse rows together we added a subtle element. Each of our rows include a red door meaning “Welcome”.
We had a blast participating in RXR last year and we’re even more excited to have our other stores on board this year! With “Home Sweet Home” as the theme, we chose to incorporate the “log cabin” block into our row because of its history and meaning.
Did you know that a “red” square in the center of the log cabin block stands for the “hearth of the home” and is the traditional version, a “yellow” center means “a welcoming light in the window”, and a “black” center represented a safe haven for the slaves during the civil war. With “word art” so popular now, we chose to include a poem that reflects how many of us feel about coming home after vacation! As much as we love to travel and see new places, there’s nothing quite like coming home to your own bed and personal surroundings! We partnered with “Decorating Your Life” again this year to produce the poem and compass iron-on appliqués. These are so easy to apply! Just press them on and you’re good to go! The “iron-on” appliqués will be available for purchase at the Vancouver Craft Warehouse separately, or packaged in our kit. There’s always the option to make your own words and shapes as well.
