Be Merry Banner

Total Time: About 1 to 1.5 hours

Supplies:

  • 1 6’ Burlap/canvas/cotton Christmas banner w/ten pennants (premade)
  • 3 2/3yd 3/8 braided red Jute
  • 3 2/3yd red/white stripe twine
  • 3 2/3yd 3/8 emerald green grosgrain ribbon
  • 3 2/3yd 3/8 gold sheer ribbon
  • 32in of 1.5in emerald green satin/grosgrain ribbon
  • 3 wooden star ornaments
  • 2” unfinished chipboard letter set (spell “BE MERRY”)
  • “Crystal” diamond dust/glitter
  • White acrylic paint
  • Gold metallic acrylic paint
  • 1 package of glitter bulb mini ornaments
  • Beacon 3-in-1 glue
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • 1 Foam brush
  • Paper plate for excess glitter
  • Paper towels or cardboard

Directions:

  • Lay out banner flat on a protected surface, such as a paper towel or cardboard
  • Untie the knotted jute on each star ornament and tie in a bow. Trim ends if needed.
  • Using foam brush, paint the seven letters white. Let dry about 10-15 min. (You do not need to paint back)
  • Using foam brush, paint the three wooden stars gold. Let dry about 10-15min. (You do not need to paint back & be careful not to paint the jute bow)
  • While paint is drying, cut 1.5in green ribbon into seven 4.5in pieces
  • Using Beacon glue, attach 1.5in green ribbon to the center of pennants #2,#3 & #5-#9. You will have a little bit of overhang; will trim off later (#1,#4 & #10 will only have a star; See picture.) Let dry about 10min.
  • The white painted letters should be dry and it is time to add glitter. Doing one letter at a time, apply mod podge to letter and then sprinkle glitter over it. (Do this part over a paper plate and be sure to shake off excess glitter. Let dry about 15min.
  • Cut the 3/8 red jute, green ribbon, stripe twine and gold ribbon into 12in pieces. You should have 11 pieces of each type.
  • Open the mini bulb ornaments and assemble them. Line them up alternating colors: Red, white, green, red white, green, etc. (You will have one extra green)
  • Group four ribbons, one of each type, together and put them through the loop of mini ornament.
  • With the ornament in the middle, attach each grouping of ribbon on each end/in between each pennant by tying in a knot
  • Using Beacon glue, attach each of gold star to the blank pennants; #1, #4 & #10. (The ones that do not have the green ribbon)
  • Spelling “BE MERRY”, attach a glitter letter to the center of the green ribbon on each pennant.
  • Let everything sit and dry for about 15min
  • Go back to each pennant with the green ribbon and trim the ribbon so that it is flush with each pennant.
  • Hang & enjoy!

 

Rustic Snowflake Banner

Total Time: About 30-45min

Directions:

  • Lay out banner flat on a protected surface, such as a paper towel or cardboard
  • Untie the knotted jute on each snowflake ornament and tie in a bow. Trim ends if needed.
  • Apply glue to back of each snowflake and attach one snowflake to the center of each pennant, let dry about 10 minutes.
  • While the glue is drying, cut the red and natural jute and glittering yarn into 12in pieces. You should have 11 cut pieces of each kind.
  • Tie a rustic bell on each end of cut red jute pieces.
  • Group one red jute, one natural jute and one glittering yarn piece together and tie in a knot before and after each banner
  • Let the banner sit flat for another 10 min or so for the glue to totally dry.
  • Hang and enjoy!
